The chair is the design world’s equivalent to a good tune: the huge number of well known ones already in existence serve to sustain the quest to discover the next well known one. Chairs frequently become used as faces for entire design movements, possibly because more than any other object, the chair defines the space occupied by a person. The chairs shown here represent my own personal design movement in that it is chairs which most clearly show what is important to me about making and designing: to combine honest materials and utility with humour and warmth.
