Commission

Crafted with collaboration, be at the centre of the design process.

So we know who George Gold is but who are the & Co? For me, the abbreviation, ‘Co’, stands as much for collaboration, or copartner as it does for company – and this is where you come in.

All the pieces of furniture shown on this website are designed and made by me and most are adaptable to your requirements. Commissioned work is where the piece of furniture answers a specific need identified by you. To a greater or lesser degree, I facilitate the design process but you are at the centre of it.

  • The process might begin with a visit to my workshop or me making a site visit to you, either way, the goal is for me to understand the broader brush strokes of what you want to achieve and when you may need it to be delivered. From this I will know enough about your project to produce either an estimate or a fixed cost.

Progress from this point will usually involve some drawings to ensure that you are happy that I understand all the elements of the task and you are happy with all the elements of the solution. Looking at timber and colour samples is a part of this and sometimes model making can be necessary to fully understand the nature of what is required and how it will look.

  • I will give as close an estimate of the time it will take to complete your project and I will keep you appraised of progress along the way. Visiting the workshop to see work in progress is easily arranged.

  • There are usually three payments in the fee structure for commissioned work each amounting to a third of the total:

    Design
Covering the costs of detailed measuring, planning and drawing

    Making
This payment represents labour and material costs

    Install
Delivery and installation of your project

We loved the whole process of creating our furniture with George. From the initial discussions on our requirements, and the dimensions of our space, up to the style and finish, George listened and created design options we could make our selection from. Throughout the process we were in contact. It was fun to see the ideas becoming reality.’
